This a high-kill intake or "pound". Years ago, it was a no-kill shelter but NOT anymore. They make more profit killing a cat than adopting one out.
Because of their quasi-official status as a government contractor, they are obligated to take any animal you deliver there off your hands. Just be aware that they kill 83% of the cats they take in. The dogs do a little better but all in all, a majority of the animals taken there will be euthanized.
Also be aware that Lied is a business. The purpose of owning a business is to make money. They are no different than Walmart. You don't dislike Walmart for trying to make a buck and you should feel the same about The Animal Foundation.
If you donate blankets and towels, these will directly benefit the poor animals that are imprisoned there. If you donate money, I think you are a fool. Do you donate money to Walmart so they can give bonuses to their executives?
If you have money to donate, please give it to one of the many starving, struggling no-kill rescues. Homeward Bound, Happy Home and NSPCA are my personal favorites.
If you want to be just a little bit closer to God, please adopt an adult animal from Lied. If you don't get them out fast, they will surely die. They are there because of the stupid and evil ones who walk among us. The idiots that don't bother getting their animals fixed, the cold blooded demons who move away and leave their animals behind. The heartless too lazy to relocate their pet safely and just drop it at the pound. Even if you don't believe in God, why not do the "angelic" thing anyway? What can you lose?
Virtually all cats adopted from Lied have contracted URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) and will become sick shortly after they get to your home. Cats must be segregated from other cats for at least 2 weeks until you are sure they don't have or have completed their URI. URI is just like a cold in a human. They will get better. Use your free Vet visit that Lied gives you and they will take antibiotics and get better. They KNOW you rescued them and they KNOW you helped them get better. They will love you for this.
Don't take a cat back to Lied for URI! USE YOUR FREE, INCLUDED VET VIST TO GET THEM BETTER. RUMOR HAS IT THAT LIED WILL NOW ALLOW A CAT IN THE EARLY STAGES TO BE ADOPTED! THIS IS WONDERFUL. MAYBE YOU COULD GO THERE NOW AND ADOPT A CAT THAT'S SHOWING SYMPTOMS AND YOU WILL SAVE THAT CAT'S LIFE IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE LIED CAN'T LET SICK CATS REMAIN IN THE POPULATION.
